WWE NXT Season 1 Roster Revealed

by admin — last modified Feb 16, 2010 05:00 PM
wwe-nxt-roster.jpg

Variety reveal today that WWE NXT will indeed be a reality show, similar to Tough Enough and UFC’s “The Ultimate Fighter.”  It will feature eight rookie wrestlers (though nine names were released) from Florida Championship Wrestling working their way towards a spot on the main WWE roster. Each rookie will be paired up with a veteran WWE superstar as their mentor, “with egos often getting in the way, as they learn the ropes of competing in the ring in front of live audiences, creating characters and speaking on camera.”  Bryan, Kaval, Henning, and DiBiase are all included as expected.

TNA iMPACT officially moving to Monday nights

TNA iMPACT will now directly compete against WWE RAW in the 9-11pm timeslot on a weekly basis.

raw-vs-impact.jpg

As reported earlier, TNA sent out a press release on Friday stating that Dixie Carter and Hulk Hogan would be making a “major announcement” on Monday afternoon. It is almost certain that TNA will be announcing that iMPACT! is moving to Monday nights in March.

Following the ratings success of January 4th’s Monday night iMPACT! special, TNA and Spike have been working out a deal that would bring iMPACT! to Monday nights permanently. While there were a serious of hangups during the negotiations, most of the major hurdles of been cleared.

iMPACT! is expected to run from 9-11pm (eastern), head-to-head with WWE RAW for two hours straight. The show will not be live each week at the beginning, but it’s certainly an option down the road if the show is a success and the show generates  more money.

As for what qualifies as successful, it’s believed  that a 1.2-1.5 is what both sides are expecting. There is always the possibility that Spike moves the show back to Thursday nights in the event that the rating falls off significantly, but the network is said to be behind TNA and will give them some time to establish themselves on onday nights.

The PPV that helped you spend your Thanksgiving with your imaginary family and friends at the WWE, the PPV that saw enemies become friends to work together for a common goal, the PPV that was every child's favorite... the Survivor Series... has been cancelled.

Some of my favorite Survivor Series memories include teams like the The Mega Powers, The Ultimate Warriors, The Heenan Family, The All-Americans, and The Foreign Fanatics.

WWE NXT debuts February 23

WWE is hoping to introduce fans to the next generation of WWE superstars!

wwe-nxt.jpg

Vince Mcmahon announced on Tuesday's ECW broadcast that WWE's new show called NXT will be debuting February 23.  There has been talk that the series might be reality show similiar to WWE's Tough Enough or UFC's The Ultimate Fighter.  Look for the show to feature premiere wrestlers in the FCW developmental system such as "International Superstar" Brian Danielson and Kaval (formerly Low Ki).  Edge will be appearing at Friday night's FCW show in Melbourne, Florida and was quoted in the press release talking about Florida Championship Wrestling and WWE NXT:

"In a couple of years, the majority of the Superstars you see on the show this Friday will have been drafted up to Raw or Smackdown , so I suppose it is also a great opportunity for me to get the scoop on who I’m going to be facing down the line."

However, the NXT name has already been in use in wrestling since 2006 by a Scottish wrestling organization called NXT Wrestling.  The owner of NXT Wrestling released this statement earlier today.

NXT Wrestling. Established 2006.

A Renfrewshire-based company in Scotland has come under threat from US media giants after a global enterprise decided to use their name and tagline.

Global media giants World Wrestling Entertainment have recently announced their plans to launch WWE:NXT, the NXT Generation of wrestling. This has since been a cause for concern for Scottish promotion NXT Wrestling, a local company who risk getting squashed in favour of the multi-million dollar WWE headed by Vince McMahon.

NXT Wrestling was announced in 2006 and launched in 2007 as a way of giving young men with dreams their chance to break free from their lives and live for a few moments in the spotlight. NXT and it’s associated promotion the Scottish Wrestling Alliance have strived to bring quality family entertainment to towns and halls across the West of Scotland, culminating in the struggle to bring an ailing genre into the spotlight with events in Kelvin Hall, and has helped raise funds for charities including Torkhill Childrens Foundation.

When WWE announced their new brand as NXT, using the same tagline ‘NXT Generation’ and emphasis on developmental talent, staff and employee’s began to worry when they woke up to the new on Wednesday morning.

“We have had no direct contact from WWE regarding this matter but we welcome any conversation or resolution they would like to put forward.” Commented Peter Murphy, owner of the Scottish Wrestling Alliance.

“Everyone at the Scottish Wrestling Alliance is honoured that WWE have decided to name their latest product after SWA’s feeder programme, NXT. We would like to assure our fans that the original NXT is still leading the way for trainees in Scotland and the shows on 6th February, Spittal Community Centre, Rutherglen, 19th February, Bargarran Community Centre, Erskine, March 6th, Viewpark Community Centre, Uddingston and March 19th, Links Community Centre, Cumbernauld are all still due to go ahead as advertised.”

After long and careful planning, SWA:NXT made it’s debut in January 2007 as a promotion designed to showcase up and coming talent within Scotland in conjunction with SWA’s Area 52 wrestling school. In 2009 NXT Wrestling split from the Scottish Wrestling Alliance to stand on it’s own two feet, taking it’s own creative direction in September last year.

The goal within the company is to give younger talent an opportunity to showcase their abilities and get noticed. Several of our NXT talents over the years have gone on to work across the UK, gain international interest and win NWA Heavyweight championships. NXT promoted shows across the West of Scotland with our next event scheduled this weekend, February 6th in Rutherglen which features some fresh young talent who have risen through the ranks of their training facility and earned their place on the event.

ECW: The End of an Era

by CelticWarriorFan — last modified Feb 02, 2010 11:50 PM

original-ecw-ecfnw.jpg

As many of you may have heard, the end of February will bring the end of ECW.  While it is a sad day to see ECW end, it also is a day to be thankful.  I, like many others, was a huge fan of ECW.  However, ever since WWE took over the ECW name, the WWE has completely destroyed the image of the ECW of old.  The ECW we are all accustomed to could never survive in the PG world of the new WWE, which is why I am glad to see the WWE drop the ECW name in favor of their new programing (which I have yet to determine if I actually will watch or not).

I will however, give the WWE a little credit in allowing the last match of ECW to be for the ECW Championship in an extreme rules match.  It is a nice gesture on behalf of the WWE, to give fans one last taste of what the old ECW stood for, however I do not expect that much from the match except for the use of some weapons and little if any blood.  Like I said, it is a nice gesture and may satisfy some fans but it will not satisfy the true fans of the old ECW, where you were disappointed if everyone in the ring was not soaked in blood.   I can only hope the WWE will surprise me and give ECW the true sendoff it deserves and give all of us fans a blood soaked match (or I guess I can just watch Impact! where I at least have the chance of seeing some people bleed).

WWE is still undecided on idea of keeping the ECW title or making a new title.  My vote is to get rid of the ECW title entirely and create a new type of championship belt.  Unless the WWE would put in a stimpulation the the ECW title has to be defended in an extreme rules match.  If this stipulation were put into effect, I may change my vote to keep the title but as it stands now I feel if you are going to get rid of the ECW show you have to get rid of the champion (right?).

Future Raw Guest Host? John Daly?

by CelticWarriorFan — last modified Feb 01, 2010 12:00 PM

john daly

There have been several rumors floating around the internet these days about possible guest hosts of RAW.  By far the best idea that I have heard of lately is that of PGA golfer John Daly.  John Daly is one of the most entertaining guys on the PGA Tour, and I think he would make a great host for RAW.  Love him or hate him, people are always talking about him, and I think he would draw in a huge audience for WWE.  As always this can be just a huge rumor, but I for one hope that the WWE follows up on this rumor and signs John Daly to be a guest host for RAW, I know I'll watch.

Return of the Monday Night Wars?

by CelticWarriorFan — last modified Jan 28, 2010 11:20 PM
tna

Recent reports have shown signs that TNA Wrestling and Spike TV are close to reaching an agreement that would move TNA to Monday nights permanently starting after the March 1st live show.  The only thing that seems to be holding the deal from being signed is the time slot issue.  There have been reports that there are different views from within the company on whether or not to attack the WWE at the 9-11 slot, go from 8-10 to see how things progress, or even make the show three hours like the old WCW days.

In order for WWE to be competitive in these Monday night wars the WWE will have to lose its PG rating and go back to the attitude era.  If this deal gets signed it will mean a better product for all wrestling fans.  I personally hope that TNA makes the move to become more like the old WCW that way it'll force WWE to produce a better product.

Awesome Kong requests release from TNA Wrestling

awesome-kong.jpg

After her backstage fight with Bubba the Love Sponge at last week's iMPACT! tapings, Awesome Kong has given her notice to the company that she is leaving.  This news was confirmed by Kong on a live video stream at Qik.com.  The altercation was over derogatory comments Bubba had made concerning the victims of the earthquake in Haiti.  Apparently Kong came running at Bubba screaming "This is for Haiti!!!" and landed 3 solid blows to the jaw before the two could be separated.  Kong has been taking part in fundraising efforts to raise money for the victims.  The TNA locker room was said to be almost 100% behind Kong, with most feeling that Bubba deserved what he got.  But Tuesday morning, Hulk Hogan was laughing about the incident on-air with Bubba and making fun of Kong which most likely led to Kong's quitting the company.  This is a major loss to TNA at this point in the Monday Night Wars.  Kong is the #1 top female in all of wrestling and simply in a class of her own.  WWE would be smart to grab her immediately.

Wrestlers Rumored to Debut on TNA IMPACT! Live

by admin — last modified Jan 02, 2010 12:20 PM

Look for TNA to pull out some major surprises on January 4th

rvd-mr-anderson.JPG

It is starting to look like main storyline will involve Hulk Hogan leading the TNA originals after old nWo members show up to attempt to "get the band back together" and Hogan declines.

Also rumored to appear:

  • Eric Bischoff - confirmed
  • Scott Hall - confirmed
  • Sean Waltman - confirmed
  • Ric Flair - not yet signed
  • RVD - at this point I'd be disappointed if he didn't show up
  • Mr. Anderson - has been able to compete since BFG
  • Jeff Hardy - legal troubles make a WWE return unlikely
  • Angelina Love - if Visa issue have been resolved
  • Tommy Dreamer - 90-day no compete clause before feuding with Raven
  • Sid Vicious - signed but complications as always with Sid
  • The Young Bucks - signed after tryout match at last week's IMPACT! tapings

Also, Hogan has been quoted as saying they have ONE BIG SURPRISE that nobody's figured out yet.  My best guess as to who this could be?  Brock Lesnar.  With his illness leaving him unable to compete in the UFC and Bobby Lashley leaving for Strikeforce, a MMA-type role spot in TNA would make sense.

Look for these and many more surprises come Monday night!

TNA signs the Young Bucks

by admin — last modified Dec 26, 2009 11:45 PM

Young Bucks TNA

The two wrestlers with the best tag-team finishing move in the business are heading to TNA.

TNA President Dixie Carter announced on her Twitter page:

“Proud to report TNA has signed the Young Bucks. Thanks to all of you for the input on them. They show great potential.”

Southern California’s Young Bucks – comprised of "Slick" Nick Jackson and "Instant Replay" Matt Jackson – have wrestled across the United States and Japan.  They have been prominent stars in the National Wrestling Alliance since the first season of NWA Wrestling Showcase.

If you've never seen their finishing move "More Bang for Your Buck" you are in for a surprise.  Picture this.  Rolling fireman's carry slam by Matt, followed by a 450° splash by Nick, followed by a moonsault by Matt.  All classic moves, but when done together in one fluid motion, it simply looks awesome.  Hooray for the lost-art of tag-team finishing moves.

Bret "The Hitman" Hart returns to WWE: Never say Never

In a shocking turn of events from his past antipathy towards Vince McMahon, Bret Hart has agreed to a deal with WWE.

bret-hart-wwe-return.jpg

Dave Metzler of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter is reporting that Bret Hart has signed a deal with WWE that will run from January 1-April 10th (about two weeks after Wrestlemania) of this year.  WWE and the Hart family just finished work on an upcoming DVD tribute to the Hart Foundation.  Although the story of the Montreal Screwjob is surely not forgotten, the working relationship between the McMahons and the Harts has been improved in recent years.  I can hear Hogan's response to this already.  "You think Vince isn't scared bruther?  He just rehired his arch-nemesis."

Yes, you heard that right.  HHH's weightlifting partner has completed his five week push from relative obscurity to the WWE Championship by beating John Cena tonight at WWE: Tables Ladders and Chairs.  Not to be outdone, HBK's buddy Drew McIntyre picked up the Intercontinental Championship in his second career PPV singles match.  Quick unrealistic championship pushes for unestablished gimmick wrestlers is what got WWE into trouble the last time they went into a Monday night war.  Just ask Henry HOG and Phineas PIG.

Monday Night Wars 2.0 - WWE RAW vs TNA IMPACT!

by admin — last modified Dec 05, 2009 11:40 PM

The Monday Night Wars are set to launch again starting January 4th.

tna-monday-night-impact.jpg

On January 4th, for the first time ever, WWE RAW and TNA IMPACT! will go head-to-head on cable television.  Expect TNA to pull out all the stops for this historic evening, including the debut of Hulk Hogan, amongst surely many others.  Dixie Carter was quoted recently on her Twitter account as saying “Hogan to debut Jan 4 in a live 3 hr iMPACT! special up against Raw. How’s that for a 1st shot? Spread the word.” Vince McMahon is rumored to be downplaying and no-selling TNA's competing broadcast, acting as if it is no concern to him or the WWE.  John Cena will be not even be in attendance for the January 4th RAW, as he will be doing the coin toss at the Fiesta Bowl.
