ECW: The End of an Era

As many of you may have heard, the end of February will bring the end of ECW. While it is a sad day to see ECW end, it also is a day to be thankful. I, like many others, was a huge fan of ECW. However, ever since WWE took over the ECW name, the WWE has completely destroyed the image of the ECW of old. The ECW we are all accustomed to could never survive in the PG world of the new WWE, which is why I am glad to see the WWE drop the ECW name in favor of their new programing (which I have yet to determine if I actually will watch or not).
I will however, give the WWE a little credit in allowing the last match of ECW to be for the ECW Championship in an extreme rules match. It is a nice gesture on behalf of the WWE, to give fans one last taste of what the old ECW stood for, however I do not expect that much from the match except for the use of some weapons and little if any blood. Like I said, it is a nice gesture and may satisfy some fans but it will not satisfy the true fans of the old ECW, where you were disappointed if everyone in the ring was not soaked in blood. I can only hope the WWE will surprise me and give ECW the true sendoff it deserves and give all of us fans a blood soaked match (or I guess I can just watch Impact! where I at least have the chance of seeing some people bleed).
WWE is still undecided on idea of keeping the ECW title or making a new title. My vote is to get rid of the ECW title entirely and create a new type of championship belt. Unless the WWE would put in a stimpulation the the ECW title has to be defended in an extreme rules match. If this stipulation were put into effect, I may change my vote to keep the title but as it stands now I feel if you are going to get rid of the ECW show you have to get rid of the champion (right?).
